Ogeechee Technical College, Agri-Business Building
Statesboro, Georgia
The Agri-Business Building is one of four large buildings
on the campus of Ogeechee Technical College (OTC). It is a 55,000 sq.
ft. facility that houses a variety of specialized college and technical
school learning environments. The building is home to Diesel Mechanics,
Veterinary Medicine, Hotel / Motel Management, Cosmetology and many other
departments. The design of the multi-use facility incorporates the color
and material standards of OTC into a contemporary facility that symbolizes
the turn of the millennium and the transition from a technical school
to a technical college.
The exterior of the building is a composition of insulated
metal wall panels, steel column covers, aluminum storefront, EIFS, and
the college’s standard brick. The sunshades on the front, south-facing
façade were designed to prevent the harsh afternoon sun from penetrating
the building. The colors were selected to complement each other as well
as other buildings on campus.
The interior composition has two themes, the industrial
and the elegant. The industrial side houses a maintenance garage where
the students learn to repair huge pieces of farm machinery and a forestry
lab where the students study tree production. The other side of the building
has a ballroom for elegant events and a salon for the study of cosmetology.
In both cases, the classrooms are located adjacent to the labs so that
students can learn from the books then step next door and get the practical
experience they will need to succeed.
